Assignment #1 - Universal Symbols

Download Link: (Click here)

#1
The first icon says no photography allowed. Some places do not allow photography and I have not or remembered seeing an icon for this sign. The only signs I remember seeing for this rule is a sign with words on it. This graphical design is easy to read since everyone who is using a camera would probably know what a camera icon looks like.

#2
The second icon says to put phones on silent. Most people these days own a smartphone or at least know what a smartphone looks like. I think that putting a "mute" symbol inside a smartphone graphic would make sense for people to acknowledge.

#3
The third icon would direct people where to get food. Not every place will have a little graphic design to direct people on where to go to the food court. Some places do, but it is a very small icon. This symbol is great because it points to where the location of where the food would be at.

Assignment #2 - Geometric Self Portrait

1) What color scheme did you use?  Name the colors for the color scheme.
The color combinations that I have used throughout the coloring process were black and gray, gray and navy blue, brown and light brown, and red and dark red.

2) What Illustrator tools did you use to complete the assignment.
The tools that I have used to complete this assignment are the ones mentioned in the tutorial, mainly the pen tool, eyedropper tool, selection/direct selection tool, pathfinder tool, blend tool, polygon tool, and the blob brush tool.

3) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.
I have spent a fair amount of time working on this piece of art. Along the way while making this image, I have also learned how to use different tools and found them useful along the way. My favorite part of this image is the hoodie because it is easy for me to outline, with the shadows and different parts of the jacket. My least favorite part of this drawing is my hair because it is hard for me to geometrically draw my hair.

4) What would you do differently next time.
Something I would do differently next time would probably get a haircut before I take a photo to draw this because I was due for a haircut anyways, making it easier to draw my hair on illustrator. Another thing that I would do differently would be spending a little more time working on the shadows to improve it and make it look a little more like me.

Assignment #3 - Fantasy Creature

1) What is the story? Describe the creature and the scene.
The story behind this picture is a cat with a mechanical body, which was scientifically made. One day it decided to run away from its laboratory and is walking around the streets in the city, just like how a stray cat would.

2) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.
This fantasy creature was pretty interesting to work with. I used many tools to warp and color the elements that are within this picture. The tool that helped me out the most was the magic wand tool because it saved me a lot of time getting rid of the backgrounds of each picture, while keeping the object in tact. My favorite part of the picture is the sewage cover because it looks nice with the steam coming out of it. I think I also did well with the black city background. My least favorite part of the picture is the sunset in the background because I couldn't find a nice picture that would fit in so I just made my own sunset.

3) What would you do differently next time
Something that I would do differently next time is to possibly be more creative with this assignment. I am not good at imagining fantasy creatures.

Assignment #4: Book Cover
Artist Statement
1) Why did you pick this book?
I picked this book because I wanted to know the types of things that kids during the 1950s have to say to an official.
2) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.I think i did a pretty good job on this book cover. My favorite part about this book cover is the front cover because it looks well designed. My least favorite part of the book is the spine because the title of the book is pretty long and the spine does not have much space to work with.
3) What would you do differently next time?
What I would do differently next time is choosing another book.
4) Did you have any challenges? What did you learn?
This assignment was not very difficult for me to work with. What I learned was what it takes to make a book cover. In reality, people will judge a book by its cover and people will want to pick up books that actually look good.
